Prodiamine
One of the most effective and long-lasting pre-emergent herbicides available. Prodiamine (sold as Barricade) provides up to 4-5 months of weed prevention and is effective against crabgrass, goosegrass, and dozens of other annual weeds.
Prodiamine is considered the gold standard pre-emergent by many lawn care professionals. Its long residual activity means a single spring application can protect through most of the crabgrass germination period, and split applications (half in early spring, half 4-6 weeks later) provide season-long control.
Duration: 4-5 months of soil activity, longer than most alternatives.
Application: Requires watering in within 21 days of application. Best results with immediate irrigation.
Split application strategy: Applying at half rate in early spring and the remaining half 4-6 weeks later widens the protection window and is especially useful in warm climates where crabgrass germination continues into early summer.
