Pre-Emergent

Pendimethalin

A widely available pre-emergent herbicide often sold under the brand name Pendulum. It works by preventing root and shoot development in germinating seeds. Pendimethalin is effective but breaks down faster than prodiamine, making timing more critical.

Pendimethalin prevents cell division in germinating weed seeds, stopping root and shoot growth before the seedling can establish. It is available in both granular and liquid formulations.

Duration: 2–3 months of soil activity — shorter than prodiamine, so timing is more important.

Application: Must be watered in after application to activate the herbicide barrier in the soil surface.

Note: Like all pre-emergents, pendimethalin prevents ALL seed germination. Do not overseed within 8–12 weeks of application.
