Nozzle Types
The nozzle on a sprayer determines the pattern and droplet size of the spray. Fan nozzles produce a flat, even sheet and are best for broadcast applications. Cone nozzles produce a circular pattern for spot treatments. Stream nozzles deliver a concentrated jet for hard-to-reach areas.
Choosing the right nozzle affects application coverage and reduces drift (spray landing off-target):
Flat fan nozzle: Produces a wide, flat sheet of spray. Best for broadcast herbicide and fertilizer applications. Provides even coverage across a wide swath.
Cone nozzle: Produces a hollow or solid cone pattern. Good for insecticide applications where you want coverage on all surfaces of a plant.
Adjustable nozzle: Found on most consumer pump sprayers. Can switch between stream and cone patterns.
Drift tip / low-drift nozzle: Produces larger droplets that are less likely to drift in the wind. Best practice for herbicide applications near sensitive plants.
